10 days until the ISDS TTIP Consultation ends!

The Online public consultation on investment protection and investor-to-state dispute settlement (ISDS) in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement (TTIP) ends in 10 days (06/07/2014).

The TTIP poses a significant risk to democracy and the environment, as it would reduce regulation around fossil fuel extraction and enable fossil fuel companies to sue governments should they try and enact tighter health and safety guidelines.

Should ISDSs be allowed, the UK government could find itself being sued for such crimes as
a. Requiring fracking companies to be liable for any damage to the environment they cause
b. Continuing to allow local residents and local people to protest fracking
c. Allowing or promoting renewable energy

These lawsuits would be decided by judges of the companies choosing and without the possibility of appeal.

Frack-Free York encourage everyone to write into the consultation and make their voide heard!
